Streamlined 5,800 job profiles to 1,000

Improved data integrity for reliable data inside and outside HR

Reduced redundancy and administrative effort in HR

Whether it’s robotic surgical equipment, healthcare imaging devices, or electric vehicle chargers, Plexus helps businesses succeed by designing, manufacturing, and servicing some of the world’s most transformative products. “We have high growth ambitions,” says Andy Stanczyk, senior director of human resources at Plexus. “We need the right foundation to achieve that goal.”

Plexus’s reliance on a massive, legacy job profile catalog posed a significant challenge. Plexus had 5,800 job profiles that included titles, descriptions, families, job levels, skills, and salary ranges. “Where a common job profile would maybe have three different versions in the catalog, ours would have 40 or 50,” Stanczyk says. “The redundancy and lack of consistency frustrated employees and HR team members.”

Through its HR partner network, Plexus solicited feedback from 100 business leaders to help tackle this problem en masse. Based on their insights, Plexus streamlined career profiles as part of a global job catalog standardization project. “Now that we have 1,000 globally aligned job profiles, our employees can see their career paths more clearly,” says Kristin Raney, HR systems manager.

Enhanced compensation and market analysis.

After standardizing its job catalog, Plexus was able to use its improved data for projects such as pay equity and transparency. “We created global grading and aligned new profiles to markets across the globe,” Stanczyk says.

By consolidating job profiles, Plexus provides clear pay ranges on roles, which is essential for attracting and retaining top talent in a competitive market. “We can now prioritize pay transparency and equity to help us advance our organization,” Stanczyk says.

The new job catalog means Plexus can ensure appropriate and accurate compensation and precise market comparisons to support scalable growth.

Our talent roadmap, empowered by our new job architecture, is going to enable us to use Workday in a whole new way.

Leveraging AI for job insights and data integrity.

Plexus’s integration of AI capabilities within Workday People Analytics supports career planning and data integrity. People Analytics lets customers make better people decisions faster. It uses augmented analytics and personalized insights that provide clear, auto-generated narratives for trends, KPIs, and metrics. Plexus also used AI to build job profiles, saving HR leaders time.

“We used AI to take massive amounts of data and create common job profiles HR partners could review instead of writing from scratch,” Stanczyk says. “It didn’t become a cumbersome task for them.”

Plexus used Workday People Analytics to surface insights about retention, promotions, and other key metrics. “We’re excited because improved data quality helps us make smarter decisions,” Raney says.

Laying the foundation for major growth.

Standardizing the job catalog with Workday has set the stage for Plexus to pursue its ambitious growth goals.

Plexus is taking advantage of more capabilities in the Workday applications it owns. “We’re looking forward to prioritizing some of the features we couldn’t leverage or use to their fullest extent before,” Stanczyk says.

Upcoming initiatives include enhancements to skills alignment, plus performance and talent management. “We’re a company who likes to roll up our sleeves and tackle challenges big and small,” Stanczyk says. “We’re hustling forward.”
