Challenges.
In the past five years, Ochsner Health System has grown at great velocity. And yet, manual processes, decentralization, and system limitations constrained it from scaling and keeping up with the pace of change required. Ochsner set out to find a unified human capital, payroll and talent management solution to gain efficiency, scale for growth, and free staff from administrative tasks so they can allot more time to exceptional patient care.
To evaluate solutions, Ochsner brought together cross-functional leaders and executives to gain the necessary buy-in and lay the foundation for a united approach to innovation and improvement. The cohesive decision to select Workday was based on the depth of offering, functionality, and future strategic vision.
Change management was also key to Ochsner early on. Change leaders, cross-functional teams, and executives met monthly to share information and ensure decisions were aligned with their overall business transformation objectives. This investment enabled Ochsner to accelerate system-wide awareness, engagement, and adoption.
Why Workday.
Workday helped Ochsner proactively respond to changes in healthcare while managing human capital more efficiently. Our cloud-based HR system offered flexible technology for continued growth and acquisitions; enhanced self-service functionality, including mobile, to quickly complete administrative tasks; and better access to real-time employee data for leaders, managers, and employees to make strategic decisions and drive improvements.
Workday in action.
With Workday, Ochsner gained standardized business processes, automation, a better user experience, deeper insights, and mobile capabilities—and that’s just the beginning.
Real-time analytics, dashboard reporting, and organizational charts provided Ochsner with a new lens into its business. With talent processes from Workday, Ochsner can now make better succession planning and recruiting decisions, while projecting its future workforce.
The flexibility Workday Payroll provides is instrumental in supporting the rapid pace of change at Ochsner. Reduced rework and efficient payroll processing from leveraging a combined HR and payroll system is key for supporting acquisitions and growth. Ochsner sets up additional auditing, which reduces the number of corrections and payments after payroll runs. The previous payroll system has no flexibility for adjusting the payroll cycle, whereas with Workday Payroll, Ochsner can preschedule the retro cycle to forecast corrections and preschedule payroll calculations and reporting.
