Operating since 1929, Iowa Hospital Association (IHA) had contracts that were stored in “digital silos” across different teams, partners, and locations. At one time, IHA had five lawyers and staff on its legal team trying to review and update its large array of contracts. Today, IHA has a team of two. The new Chief Legal Officer Abhay Nadipuram wanted a solution that could streamline IHA’s contract management process, driving efficiency and compliance. And having had a positive prior experience with provider Evisort (now Workday), Nadipuram chose Workday Contract Lifecycle Management, powered by Evisort AI.
Eliminating silos by collecting contracts.
The team quickly adopted Workday’s workflow capabilities for managing day-to-day templates and centralizing the contract process. Workday’s contract AI and ingestion process seamlessly gathered all of IHA’s agreements into a single intelligent repository. This was pivotal for an organization striving to modernize and streamline operations. As Nadipuram explains, “We have been able to really leverage the tool to collect all of our agreements.”
IHA has been in existence for almost 100 years, but we had no centralized location for our contracts.

More bang for your buck.
Workday provides analytics capabilities that exceed other CLM tools. As Kelly Spong, director of Legal Operations, describes, “It’s harvesting information, which is something that none of the other tools I’ve used before were doing. [Other tools] were more like a virtual storage shed. Workday is doing actual data analytics, so it’s more bang for your buck.
“Not only can I have a workflow ticketing system, but it’ll also tell me how many of my contracts are executed versus how many are not,” Spong continues. “How many contracts did we work through this past year? How many of them were speaker agreements versus vendor agreements? This is data that somebody would have to pluck out themselves by going through all their agreements.”
AI-powered workflows improve visibility and efficiency.
Spong says that Workday’s AI-powered contract management platform “lets us look at an agreement and actually read through it” but without slowing down the process for teams that want to set up a new contract.
As the “eye in the sky,” Spong has total visibility in order to manage all documents in the system, but individual teams—such as HR, Education, and Communications—can only see their own documentation. The Workday platform ensures they can access agreements whenever necessary. According to Spong, “I’ve never actually had somebody say, ‘Oh, I can’t find this and I know we’ve executed. Can you send it to me?’ It’s been a pretty slick transition.”
It’s great that they can just fill out a form and have all the right data input into a contract template.

Customer support that “can’t be oversold.”
Customer support stands out for both Nadipuram and Spong. As Nadipuram says, “I’ve never had to wait longer than a day to get a response from somebody to help and when it came to training Kelly on this, customer support was right there to set things up. That was one thing I didn’t have to worry about.”
“I don’t think it can be oversold,” Spong says. “There will never be situations with customer support where your question sits for days or even a week without an answer. They always respond. And I’ve completed much of the training on my own. So beyond just the customer service, there are also educational resources.”
