When Malaysia-based business services provider Averis pursued rapid international expansion, its fragmented human capital systems made it difficult to break into new markets. Averis has an unusually extensive global reach, from Asia to South America, with its workforce growing 20-fold over 20 years. To expand efficiently and at pace, Averis needed repeatable recruitment processes—a challenge when its people data was scattered across multiple platforms. “We faced significant challenges in talent acquisition,” recalls Lim Ser Yong, head of Shared Services. “Our inefficiency consumed a lot of resources.”
Lim identified the need for a global platform to streamline processes, improve efficiency, and make people management more scalable and strategic. Workday was the choice for its ability to help deliver an integrated employee experience in a single platform, alignment with Averis’ values, and reputation as a technology leader.
Confidence to expand into new markets.
Averis has used Workday to streamline its talent acquisition, reduce time to hire, and improve the candidate experience as it moves into new geographies. “Since adopting Workday, our HR services team has seen a marked increase in processing accuracy and a reduction in processing time,” notes Lim.
The value of Workday as a partner goes beyond helping Averis to quickly identify, recruit, and onboard the right talent. During the initial setup of a new Averis office in Brazil, the team collaborated closely with Workday to draw on local knowledge. “They helped us understand the regulatory and human capital practices unique to Brazil, which are significantly different from those in Malaysia,” recalls Lim.
We leveraged Workday’s strong global presence and expertise to support global expansion—particularly in the Americas.

HR is more agile and strategic.
Now that administrative and repetitive tasks have been automated, Lim’s human services team has significantly improved its operational efficiency. “As a result, our team can focus more on strategic initiatives and higher value tasks rather than getting bogged down by routine tasks,” Lim says.
Now that people have access to real-time insights, innovation is on the rise. “We can review our operations from both a macro, higher-level strategic planning perspective or right down to the micro level of a single team’s performance,” says Lim.
Workday allows us to improve efficiency in our manpower planning and transform our business operations into a very streamlined environment.

Responsible AI improves productivity.
Averis is actively embracing AI and machine learning (ML) to enhance its operations, as well as to automate routine tasks, provide predictive insights, and personalize the user experience. Lim notes the advantage of having AI and ML at the core of the Workday platform. “These tools make our people more productive, better informed, and more capable of solving complex problems.”.
Lim says AI filtering and data-driven recommendations have been particularly valuable in recruitment, helping Averis to rapidly find people with the right skillset, competencies, experience, and cultural fit.
At the same time, Lim has confidence that AI tools that Workday offers are designed to protect privacy and avoid bias. “We strongly trust in Workday’s commitment to responsible AI, which ensures the technology is ethical, transparent, and supports our values,” says Lim.
Supported by Workday’s actionable insights, my team is more agile, makes better informed decisions, and can adapt quickly to changing business needs.
