Western Sydney International Airport enables more efficient operations.

“Keeping the bulk of our information on the Workday platform allows for easier and more efficient operations.”—Chief Technology Officer

Ensurance of data reliability, speed, and quality

Easier reporting on value for money

Effective verification of security clearances

Tom McCormack, chief technology officer of WSI, loves not having to contend with legacy systems. “One of the beauties of being a greenfield airport is being able to choose the best platforms from which to conduct our business,” McCormack explains.

Building from the ground up, McCormack chose the full suite of Workday products to create a single source of truth, ensuring reliability, speed, and quality of information across finance, human capital management, planning, and supply chain. As a result, the new airport’s construction phase has been able to avoid the data quality issues that come with multiple systems. “Workday has been very effective for us, providing high levels of efficiency,” McCormack says.

Orchestrating the supply chain.

McCormack describes an airport as a “giant supply chain.” The interactions between the airport and its suppliers play a crucial role in ensuring efficient airport operations.

“Workday has helped us successfully manage suppliers in the construction phase of the airport,” says McCormack. “In particular, the Workday source-to-pay capability has been critical to help us report on the value for money we create through effective supply chain engagement.”

McCormack notes that the ability to orchestrate the supply chain will become even more important once the airport is operational. “Workday will help us maintain supply chain resilience.”

We now have confidence we’re choosing the right supplier at the right price with the right products.

Supporting safety and security.

As McCormack turns his attention to the systems that will be needed when WSI opens for business, Workday is front and center in many of these plans.

For example, Workday data will be critical to security—a paramount issue with aviation. “It’s about the right people being allowed in the right place, with the skills and qualifications to conduct safe operations,” McCormack explains. The single source of truth enabled by Workday, along with its ease of integration, will be essential to help the airport verify an individual’s security clearance and work credentials.
